BlackBull Markets is a New Zealand-based multi-asset broker operating across five jurisdictions, moving customer and trading data at scale. We are hiring a Lead Data Engineer to own the pipelines and infrastructure behind that operation, based on-site in Dubai or Cyprus.
This is a hands-on lead role. You will architect, build, mentor, and still write production code in Python and Go.
What you will do
• Technical leadership: set standards for code quality and system design, own architecture decisions across our data lakes and warehouses, and mentor engineers
• Pipelines and processing: design and optimise batch and real-time pipelines using Python, Go, Airflow, and DBT; lead schema migrations across disparate systems, including cleansing and normalisation

• Reliability: keep Kafka, Redshift, and Kubernetes optimised and available, with monitoring and alerting through Sumo Logic and PagerDuty
• Data and storage: select the right database for the job across SQL, NoSQL, and graph, with depth in MySQL and PostgreSQL, and optimise queries and data structures for performance
What you bring
• 3 to 5+ years in data engineering, with a strong grounding in distributed systems and modern data architecture
• Strong production-level Python and/or Go
• Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka, AWS Redshift, Apache Airflow, and DBT, across both ETL and ELT
• AWS expertise, solid SQL and NoSQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL preferred), and familiarity with Parquet, Avro, Iceberg, and Hudi

The Role
We're looking for a user-focused Android Engineer to join our engineering team. You'll be building Plum on Android from its early days, giving our current and prospective customers a more intimate way to interact with their money.

How We Work
We work in "squads" - a more startup-appropriate name for saying small, cross-functional teams. Each squad has a mission and a set of KPIs to monitor and improve. As an engineer you'll be working in a squad, but you can also reach out to and work with anyone in the company. You will also be part of a Mobile engineering team, consisting of Mobile Product Engineers who share the same vision and passion of building an exceptional mobile team that will help people be financially better off.

The Role
The Engineering Manager leads multiple cross-functional engineering teams responsible for the development, performance and ongoing operation of Pepperstone's core trading platform, including the Order Management System (OMS), trading integrations and platform services. Key Responsibilities
• Lead and develop cross-functional engineering teams across OMS, integrations and trading platform services, including engineers, QA and technical leads, fostering a high-performance, accountable and collaborative culture
• Own end-to-end platform performance, including order execution latency, throughput, concurrency handling and market data delivery, ensuring systems meet strict performance and reliability targets
• Drive platform stability and operational excellence, reducing incident frequency and severity, improving mean time to recovery, and embedding strong incident management, root cause analysis and continuous improvement practices
• Translate trading platform strategy and roadmap into actionable engineering deliverables, ensuring clear prioritisation, alignment and execution across multiple teams and stakeholders
• Oversee the design, development, testing and deployment of platform changes, ensuring all releases meet production readiness standards, including performance, security and resilience requirements

About you
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in an Engineering Manager (or equivalent leadership) role within an agile, product-led environment
• Proven experience leading engineering teams in complex, distributed system environments, with exposure to both backend platforms and client-facing systems
• Strong domain experience in ultra low-latency, high-throughput systems, ideally within trading, fintech, betting or gaming environments
• Deep technical expertise in backend engineering, with strong proficiency in Java, Kotlin or Go, and a strong understanding of performance optimisation and concurrency
• Demonstrated hands-on engineering capability, able to contribute to system design, debugging, performance tuning and critical production issues when required
• Strong understanding of distributed systems design, including scalability, fault tolerance, resilience and efficient inter-service communication
• Experience designing and working with API and service communication pattern (e.g. REST, gRPC), particularly in performance-sensitive environments
